Thanks for this! “The mouth of night” is an intriguing phrase to know. This story was new to me, though I confess I prefer “subduing the dragon” to slaying it, which some say was the norm in older tales.

The description of how to kill a mermaid sounds a lot like where Koschei the deathless hid his death, I find that interesting.
